Great American Teach-In

Posted by Travis Bird On November - 20 - 2009

Students and teachers alike got a nice break from the traditional classroom setting this past Wednesday. Instead of listening to a teacher drone on and on, students were able to listen to guest speakers talk about their careers. Instead of grading papers and yelling at unruly students, teachers were able to sit at their desks in peace and do whatever teachers do. It was time for the annual Great American Teach-In.

“I enjoyed it a lot,” said freshman Drew Forest. “It was interesting to hear what jobs people in the real world have.”

Topics among speakers included an ecologist, accountant, and a Vietnam War veteran. Teachers also enjoyed the one-day break.

“It was nice to actually be able to sit down for a while,” said first grade teacher Michelle Bird. “The students were thrilled to have guests in the classroom.” Ms. Bird has been teaching for four years, and has been a participant in the teach-in all four years.
