What did you do for New Years? some people spent it with there friends like for instance Dalline Mota “ I spent the beginning of the night with my family and then ended up going to my friends house.” people who spent it with there friends most likely went to parties there friends were having or maybe just wanted to spend it with a couple of friends or you maybe you spent it with your family.
Another thing that comes with a new year are new years resolution which some people find useful and others useless like Alejanda Catala does “I don’t make New years resolutions because you never go through with them.” But hopefully for those of you that do have resolutions you go through with them.
For many students, the only thing better than turning sixteen is finally getting a license.
With age comes many new responsibilities and one of the most exciting responsibilities is getting a license and being able to go out and about without having to wait on a parent or sibling to give them a ride.
“I am very excited to be a new driver but I am kind of nervous.” Said junior Julie Matos. “I am so glad that I am getting my license because I can go wherever I want, whenever I want, without having to wait for my mom. I also don’t have to ride the bus to school anymore. I don’t have car yet but I am more than happy so share the car with my mom.”
Some students are not as excited about driving.
“I’m not really excited to be a new driver because I’m scarred.” Said junior Sarah Avery. “My mom is always telling me to be safe and stuff so I’m scarred about getting into a crash. I don’t have a car yet- I’m working on it. I’ve been going shopping on and off but my parents are super picky about what kind of car it get so its taking a while.”
Nowadays the lives of teens is pretty hectic with all the homework, jobs, drama, and friends. Its hard to remember the important things like family.
May students sit aside special time to spend with the ones they are closest to.
“I like to go shopping with my mom, or play games with the whole family or play Scrabble with my dad. We also always eat dinner together as a family.” Said junior Jarell Brown. “I do think spending time with family is very important and I often spend time with them and I actually enjoy it unlike some teens.”
“Me and my family got to movies or eat dinner. We go out to eat a lot and I like to go shopping with my grandma.” Said sophomore Ashleigh Cookson. “I don’t really spend much time with my family so the little time I do spend with them is a treasure.”

If you happen to be interested in getting some new ink done or maybe getting a piercing done there is hardly a better time to do it then around Christmas time. You just got your Christmas money and also the Toys for Tats program is going on. Bring in a five dollar toy and get twenty dollars off!
Atomic is one of the top tattoo parlors in the Brandon area. There is a shop on Kings Ave. and another just opened in The Westfield mall.
“It’s a neat and sterile enviroment, has good prices, and great artists,” said Junior Jordan Fowler.
I really have no idea what to write about a tattoo shop, this is more like an advertisement.
When the clock struck midnight on January first, 2009, millions of new years resolutions were finalized. Popular topics ranged from breaking annoying habits such as nail-biting to more serious resolutions like losing weight or quit smoking or drinking.
Surprisingly, the number one new years resolution this year, according to about.com was to spend more time with family and friends.
“That is surprising since a lot of Americans are overweight,” said freshman Rachel Pence. ” I thought it would be losing weight or stop smoking.”
Other resolutions that were on the list were to enjoy life more and get organized. Getting out of debt was ninth on the list.
Although there was no racing down snow covered hills on snowboards, no replicas of Parson Brown being crafted outside, or even any snowball fights in the park, this 2009 Floridian Christmas season was sure to be memorable for many students. They had plans of hanging out with friends, visiting family, and hosting various holiday parties, while awaiting the holidays. Many students had lots of gifts on their wish list, such as Xbox 360 gaming consoles or even a car for some new drivers. Also, some went on family vacations around the US to see friends and family or just to enjoy a much needed break in the mountains or at the beach.
“[For Christmas break], I went to Georgia and went hiking in the mountains,” said sophomore Jared Vick.
For most, though, the best part of the break were the presents that came with it on the 25th. Freshman Darius Mack got lots of things for Christmas.
“I got a new leather jacket, shoes, and a Wii,” he said.
Overall, the students had a wonderful Christmas break, enjoying both the gifts and the time off, despite Florida’s sunny weather.
