Chorus Concert

Posted by Joanna Kent On December - 1 - 2009

On Tuesday October 13, 2009 the Bloomingdale chorus had their first concert of the year shared with Burns Middle School at 7:00 P.M in the auditorium. More than 500 of the students preforming family members and friens attended this special event that lasted from 7:00 P.M until 8:30 P.M.

Freshman Emily Jackson, a member of freshman choir said “I think the chorus concert was amazing and I was excited to see all of my friends from Burns preform”. Emily also said ” I think that all of the groups did great, especially the ambassadors”!

Many students that are members of Bloomingdale’s chorus were very excited for the event and were glad that everything went the way it was planed and turned out to be a very well planned and preformed concert.

Bring On The Pies!

The band and choral organizations got another early jump at raising some green paper for the trip to London, England in 2011, fourteen months away by selling certificates redeemable for a free pie from any Village Inn restaraunt in America. And the best part? The certificates never expired! The band and chorus students, wise to start on any fundraiser early, began selling immediately. Whether it be French silk, cherry, apple, key lime, pecan, or the simple yet traditional pumpkin pie, no one could resist bringing a delicious dessert home for the Thanksgiving feast, especially after hearing it would support a Bloomingdale music student.

Morgan Morrow, a freshman band student, was eager to start selling the pies.

“I want to sell 100 so I can pay off my trip to London,” she said.

Mr. Anton Donchev, the band intern, also had a thought to share about the fundraiser.

“It will go as well as the [students] want it to. If they don’t want to go to London then they won’t reap any rewards,” said Donchev. ”It will take lots of hard work to get there.”

Money for the Music Department

Posted by Andrew Forest On September - 8 - 2009

What sounded better than rich, creamy cheesecake after a hard day, especially when the money was helping a music department student go on the trip of a lifetime to London, England? This is how the many teachers, students, and parents felt after purchasing baked goods for the music fund raiser.

The campaign supported the Bloomingdale music organization’s two trips to the United Kingdom and Orlando. Each item on the catalogue, when bought, gave each student about 3 dollars towards their expeditions. The students selling the many delicious foods for scholarships were very ambitious about the fund raiser.

“I sold about 35 [items] so far, and I hope to sell 50,” said band freshman Marc Cohen.

Not only are the students pumped for the fundraiser, but the music directors are as well. Mr. Jon Sever, the clinician for the Bloomindale band thinks the program will take off.

“[The fundraiser] should go very well. We usually do great with this fundraiser because the food is good,” Mr. Sever said.

To purchase baked goods for the fund raiser, see any music student or director, by September 11.

Ready, Set, Sing!

Posted by Taira Zavala On September - 2 - 2009

On Saturday,  August 29, 192 chorus students from seven different choirs  such as Freshman Choir, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, Advanced Women’s Choir, Ambassadors and Chamber Choir, all came to get fitted for their chorus dresses and tuxedos from the 9:00 to 1:00 at a event called Ready, Set, Sing!

With so many people, it could have been hectic, but Ms. Bev Sutherland kept the event organized. “No. We have ten stations and it’s very organized,”  Ms. Bev Sutherland said.

“It was organized, I was in and out in thirty minutes tops,” said freshman Alejandra Catala.

Chorus students could have  purchased a Bloomingdale chorus polo. Parents may have been eligible to join chorus boosters, which help raise money for trips, and planning concerts.  If sighned up, parents are able  to get reserved seating for chours shows . Parents and students also got a second chance to turn in paperwork that had been forgotten to be signed the previous week when due.

Overall “Ready,Set, Sing!” was a success.
