Orchestra Concert

Posted by Megan Smith On October - 19 - 2009

Many people filed into the auditorium Thursday night, ready for a good show. The Bloomingdale orchestra concert was held at 7pm that night.

This concert was like no other. The chamber orchestra tried a new trend called strolling strings in which they would walk around the audience in groups serenading people. One of the orchestra students, Kara Licouse said, “It was so cool! I didn’t expect for them to like walk around and stuff.”

Four groups played throughout the night: the Concert, Chamber, Symphony, and Freshman orchestras, playing a variety of songs. “We have prepared a unique concert that will conjure images of Fall festives,” said Mrs. Caballero, “and celebrations from around the globe.”

Lets not forget the suprise baby shower that was held for Mrs. Caballero right after intermission. It was presented by many students who gathered gifts in honor of Mrs. Caballero’s baby.

All-State…It has NOTHING to do with insurance.

Many orchestra students from around the state of Florida gathered to the halls of Blake High School on October 3 to present their auditions into the All-State Orchestra.

“It was a great gathering of virtuosi,” junior Hiram Rios said. ”Every musician that entered the school was better than the last.”

Students trying out had to play a scale, an etude and a solo for three judges. They were evaluated on the style that they play and the intonation of the notes, among other criteria.

“I have a few students who are trying out,” Hope Paolotte, a private music teacher, said. “It’s a great way for musicians to meet new friends and get a look at the level of others around the state.”

Numerous students tried out for the All State Orchestra and Bloomingdale had a total of nine people try out. The results are still unknown, though they should find out who made the orchestra soon.

Money for the Music Department

Posted by Andrew Forest On September - 8 - 2009

What sounded better than rich, creamy cheesecake after a hard day, especially when the money was helping a music department student go on the trip of a lifetime to London, England? This is how the many teachers, students, and parents felt after purchasing baked goods for the music fund raiser.

The campaign supported the Bloomingdale music organization’s two trips to the United Kingdom and Orlando. Each item on the catalogue, when bought, gave each student about 3 dollars towards their expeditions. The students selling the many delicious foods for scholarships were very ambitious about the fund raiser.

“I sold about 35 [items] so far, and I hope to sell 50,” said band freshman Marc Cohen.

Not only are the students pumped for the fundraiser, but the music directors are as well. Mr. Jon Sever, the clinician for the Bloomindale band thinks the program will take off.

“[The fundraiser] should go very well. We usually do great with this fundraiser because the food is good,” Mr. Sever said.

To purchase baked goods for the fund raiser, see any music student or director, by September 11.
