Act it Out!

As Bloomingdale’s aspiring actors enjoyed their first Thespian Society meeting, it was suggested to the dozens of members that they prepare Individual Events, entries for performing competitions, by October 2nd.

For IEs, club members choose a short performance on their own, such as a monologue, a song, or a group scene. They are required to see Mrs. Buck, the club’s sponsor, in room 109 with their act of choice and either a script of the scene or sheet music for a musical number. After getting approval from the Society, they will have about a month to rehearse it and get ready to perform before judges. The best will advance to a regional competition, and possibly even to state.

Bloomingdale alumna Colleen Hazlehurst, a former Thespian, says, “I really liked the club when I was at Bloomingdale. Drama was one of my favorite things in high school.”

IEs will get Thespians, especially new ones, ready for a year of drama, acting, and singing. After competing individually, they will have that much more experience to use in the future. According to Hazlehurst, “Thespians was a great experience, and I recommend that all members try an IE.”

Songs and Dances

The auditions for The Sound of Music have been held, and now that hopeful students have gone to their callbacks, the possible actors can’t wait for rehearsals to start. Excitement is in the air for them and for all those who want to see it.

Students in all grades tried out for the play, and everyone has a chance to be in it. People are anxiously waiting for callback responses, and while not all of them will get the part they wanted or even get a part, they all have talent, and can still audition for more plays.

What about the students who aren’t in it? Most of them are really excited for the play, such as Freshman Elaine Owens, who says, “Dude, that sounds so awesome. I want to go see it!” Sophomore Christina Worley feels the same way, responding, “I think it sounds very interesting and would be enjoyable to watch.”

The Sound of Music is coming, and it sounds great.
