Posted by Megan Smith On October - 19 - 2009

The Homecoming Football game was last Friday October 9th. It was Bloomingdale vs Plant City, the final score was 28-0 with Plant in the lead.

“It was a pretty good night,” said freshman Travis Bird. “I wish we would’ve won but the band was amazing. Especially the drums during the mosh pit!” The band participated all throughout the night playing at the pregame, the homecoming presentation, and doing one final show after the game featuring Don’t Stop,  Anyway You Want It, and more.

Sophomore Sarah Palmonka also commented on the game, saying, “It would’ve been nice to win but it was fun and a good way to kick off homecoming. Hopefully we’ll play better next season or game.”

With the fans covered in black clothing and paint, they were ready for some action. “It was nice to see everyone dressed up!” Said freshman Drew Forest, ”It seemed like the whole stands were pitch black. Some people really got into it!”

cheerLast Friday night, the Varsity football team traveled to Durant. They were unable to contain the Cougars, losing 21-0. The game started off well for the Bulls, with quarterback Eugene Perry completing a 40-yard pass. After that however, the Bulls fumbled the ball away at the five yardline.

Durant scored once in the first half, leading 6-0 through two quarters. The second half was all Durant, with Senior John Hicks scoring two rushing touchdowns, and their defense collecting a safety. A fumble late in the fourth sealed the deal for Durant, celebrating the win on their homecoming night.

“We’ll watch the film and make corrections and continue to work on our fundamentals,” said Coach James Booth, when asked how the team is going to spend their bye week.

The next game is October 9th vs. Plant City, which is homecoming. “I’m looking forward to the homecoming game.” Said junior Tyler Bird. “It’s going to be fun.”

QBOn Thursday September 17, the football team lost to Leto, 22-15 .

Leto took the lead 6-0 in the first quarter and Bloomingdale didn’t score until the third quarter, but the game wasn’t over yet. The offense managed to score 13 points in the last quarter.

“We beat ourselves with all of the penalties we got,” Jake Smith said. ”We’re better than them and should’ve won.”

The band didn’t play at this game, but the football game was enough to keep fans interested

“I wish the band would’ve played. But it was my first game and I had alot of fun!” said freshman Matthew Yeatts. “I can’t wait till the Homecoming game, I heard that’s the best one!”

JV Football vs. Armwood

Posted by Travis Bird On September - 18 - 2009

CHEERLETOWednesday night, the Bloomingdale Junior Varsity football team played their second game of the year, at home versus top-ranked Armwood. The final score was 42-6, in favor of Armwood.

After the first quarter, the score was 8-6, thanks to a touchdown by sophomore Brandon Gosdoski, on a pass from David Ditfield, sophomore. Armwood was able to dominate in the second half by returning two punts for touchdowns, and a third down to the one yard-line.

Bloomingdale is now 0-2, their other loss coming last week to Brandon. However, Coach James Booth said, ”The team is taking steps in the right direction. It won’t take much to keep them motivated.”

There are still four games left in the JV season, versus Durant, Lennard, East Bay, and Plant City.

When asked about next week’s game at Durant, freshman linebacker Robbie Bullara said, “The first two losses were humiliating, but we are going to practice harder and step it up.”

The First Football Night

B-S-H-S,” the band cheered, marching onto the field during halftime playing the famous Journey song, Any Way You Want It. The halftime show  made this a night to remember, according to sophomore Katie Brown. During the third quarter she exclaimed, “We should do Lennard a favor and give them some of our band members!” Adding to this comment was Mattie Edwards, sophomore, who had only one thing to say. “Our band’s better.”

More along the lines of the game though, Bloomingdale’s first touchdown was made by number 32, Chris Harold, a sophomore. Following up that touchdown with a field goal was Matt Lassitter, a senior.

The score was a close 19-7 and although we didnt win this game, there was some positive feedback. Jacob Campoamor, a sophmore and one of the football players recalls this game as a lesson by stating, “We need to take this as a learning experience, bounce back next week and take ‘em down!” Lets hope these words of wisdom follow through to next week’s first home game.

The Newbies in School.

Freshman aren’t the only newbies here. Three coaches have arrived. Miss Teague, a sophomore English teacher, is the new cheer-leading coach and she’s ready for action.

Also on the field is Coach Booth who is currently the Football coach and teaches numerous H.O.P.E. classes. Olivia Caramico, a sophomore, states, “I had Coach Booth last year, and from what I remember he’s a really cool coach. He was a little laid back, but not too lenient. Definately one of the few people who actually made H.O.P.E. fun.”

Along with these two coaches, we have Coach Willis coaching basketball. One of his H.O.P.E. students; Amanda Acevado, a sophomore; recalls “Coach Willis is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Although, I am not a fan of P.E., I really like this class. He even puts the radio on when we’re in the portable!”

As you can see, we are very lucky to have this addition to our school.
