Volleyball vs. Plant

On Tuesday October 13Th 2009 the girls went against some harsh competition against Plant High School aka the panthers. The game was at Plant and started at 7:30 pm, junior varsity also played at 6:15 pm.

The girls played three games and lost all three games. The scores were 8-25, 9-25 and the last score was 20-25. This was the tenth game of the season.

Before the game Kelly Rach, sophomore, ” I’m excited and pumped for the game, I hope I don’t break a nail though because last game I played i bended my finger back.”

This game was a district game. The district teams for girls are Brandon High School which they lost both game against them, Alonso High School which they won both games they played, Plant High School another team they lost to both times and Wharton High School, the girls won against Wharton. The girls record for the season is 5-6. But for the district record its 4-4.

Volleyball Defeats Wharton

Last Tuesday night, Bloomingdale’s volleyball teams took on Wharton for the second time this year. Once again, they were victorious, taking the best-of-five series in four games, 3-1.

Led by sophomore Allie McFee, the team took the first game by a score of 25-22. After losing the second game, the Bull’s didn’t look back, winning the final two games, 25-19 and 25-21.

“It is really nice to have a good and competitive team to cheer for,” said sophomore Megan Smith.

However, the junior varsity team were not able to complete the sweep, losing two straight gfirst game was very close, 27-25. After a brief comeback in the second game, the JV team couldn’t hold ames. The off Wharton, and lost 25-20.

“Practice was very tough the next day.” Said freshman Brandy Higgins. “We ran a lot, but we will be ready for Thursday’s match.”

The varsity record is now 5-7, with five games left on the schedule, two of which are home games.

Volleyball loses to Brandon in three matches

vballwebOn Tuesday September 15, the varsity volleyball lost to Brandon in three matches, though the junior varsity team pulled out a win.

The crowd was all pumped up and ready to beat the Eagles. Everyone was dressed in red from head to toe cosidering it was a red out game. The volleyball team actually got their shirts during the JV game. So after the JV game everyone got their red out shirts to show their support for the Bulls.

The game lasted for three matches, all lost to Brandon. The first, they were still pumped up from the red out. By the last game, the girls seemed exhausted.

The next time game against Brandon is on October 8 at Brandon High School.

Bloomingdale Volleyball vs. Wharton

Last night, the Varsity Volleyball competed in their third match of the season at Wharton High School. They were looking to change their luck after losing their first two matches of the season. In the best-of-five set, Blooming dale won 3 games, and lost 0.  The first game was no contest, 25-12. The second, however, had to go into extra time, and Bloomingdale pulled it off 28-26. The third and final  game was a close 25-22. Their current record is 1-2.

“Last night’s game was a very good, close match,” said Coach Danielle Leffler. “The deciding factor was who made the least errors.”

 The JV squad also traveled to Wharton. They lost a nail-biter in the first game, 25-23, after leading 21-17.  The next game was just as close, but in the end Bloomingdale just couldn’t get ahead. The final of the second game was 25-21. They are now 1-1, this being their first loss of the season.

“We need to just go back out there and practice harder and not make as many mistakes,” commented freshman Rachel Pence.

Bloomingdale has two upcoming games this week, Tuesday vs. Brandon, and Thursday at Plant.

Volleyball falls to Newsome

The varsity volleyball team played their rival Newsome on Thursday September 3 and lost in 4 matches. Though the girls lost, they united against the Wolves.

The game was a black out game, with the whole varsity team was dressed in black from head to toe. 

Before the game the girls all came together to have there team dinner that they do before every game. You could tell they were all excited and nervous. Katie Fife junior said ” Were all stoked, and the nerves kicked in 1st period.” The girls all agreed with her.

“It’s fun playing against some of the people on your club team,” said sophomore Danielle Jenkins.

The varsity team did very well. They lost the first two games by a close margin. The third game they came together and won it, and even though the last game was very close they still lost.

volleyball 001 (team)There are 14 girls on the Bloomingdale team, 1 senior, 5 Juniors, and 8 sophomores. Brittany Stirling, one of the juniors, tore her ACL on the second day of practice and is now out for the whole season. Sierra Gonzalez, a junior, injured her foot running sprints and has a cast on until September 11.Also Liz Morley is our lone senior and leader on the court. Other than that, everyone is healthy. The Bloomingdale volleyball team won the preseason tournament at Sickles High, beating Mitchell High and Cambridge High, both Pasco County schools. The team also had the first game last night, unfortunately Durant won the first game 25-18, the second 25-22, and the last game 25-17 .Also we have a very tough district play next week.Also In October, the team will be playing in a “Dig Pink” tournament in Orlando to help raise money for breast cancer.

Volleyball players start season on crutches

Before the school year even started, three varsity volleyball players were already on crutches. Sierra Gonzales, Jessica Sawicki and Brittany Stirling, all  juniors, sat out for various reasons.

Sierra Gonzales injured a ligament in her leg a week ago. She will be able to play in four weeks. When she comes back she will also be playing middle. “The team will do awesome if we stay focused and work together.”

Jessica Sawicki hurt her foot while helping Coach Danielle Leffler put her classroom together. Jessica healed and will be able to play in games. She will playing middle spot with Sierra.

Brittany Stirling tore her ACL during volleyball practice, and will be out all season. Though she would be playing middle, she said, “It’s a real set back, because we have a new coach, and we have a real potential.”

Though on the sideline there spirit helps the team. The first game for varsity will be September 1st  at bloomingdale against Durant at 7pm.
