Intense conditioning began with the new wrestling coach and it’s looking to be a promising year. Coach Matos starts them off with weight lifting for about thirty minutes, and then it’s off to the field under the hot Florida sunshine.
Stretches are led by returning juniors seniors who are hoping to make a good impression on the new coach and hopefully gain a spot as team captain.
Junior Skip Reagor said, “After stretches we go right into sprints. They’re usually forty yards, but after doing twenty of those we’re sweating like crazy and gasping for breath.”
Once all of their legs are completely shot and they’re ready to collapse, it’s time to call it a day unless you’re a returner to the team. Afterwards, if they have the energy, returners are allowed some mat time to sharpen they’re skills before the season get under way.
“I couldn’t wait to get back onto the mat after such a long off season,” quoter junior Ryan Vickers.
