Skinnys + Boys = Latest Trend

kacie, kayla, corin 001From extra bright colors, to leggings, all the way to “big” hair, the 80s came back with a bang! In most outfits today there was at least one article of clothing that dates back to the 80s trends.

One of the most notable trends back from the 80s was the skinny jean. This trend came back from the past and was probably the most worn jean since the bell bottom.

At first, this type of jean was barely worn by males but the invincible style crossed the gender spectrum. Now girls were not the only ones sporting this style, but boys had also taken on the trend.

“Skinny jeans appeal to me,” junior Jesse Carrillo said, “the way they feel. At first, when they came out, I was skeptical about them but I bought a pair and they squeezed my legs. It was weird, but now I cannot go back to normal jeans.”

Some boys say that celebrities influenced their style.

“About a year and a half ago, I saw somebody wearing them on TV,” said junior Tevin Gage, “and I said, I need to step up my game, so I converted.”

More-Hawks

add meThere was a new fashion trend that circulated that had become more popular than ever. The mohawk and its many creative forms have been sported, moreso by young boys, everywhere we’ve looked.

For some it was a new trend but for some it was not. “It’s a tradition for me to get a mohawk at the beginning of every school year,” said junior Olivier Ishtiaq, who particularly wore the most popular form of the mohawk, which was a mohawk with not bald, but low-cut hair on the sides.

And for others, it was a new thing to try out, mostly egged on by friends. “I wanted it since the beginning of the school year and my friend told me to get it,” said junior Chuks Ibekwe. This could be the reason that many other students wore this haircut, therefore explaining the reason why the trend spread like wildfire.

Either way, the popular classic yet rebellious look seems to remain irresistible to many today, and most likely will be in the future. As best said by junior Olivier Ishtiaq, “[Even if it died out,] I would keep it.”

Styles  may change but being stylish never dies. Megan Smith claims ” I am preppy, at least thats what most people say, I love plaid and flowery flip-flops.” Students are stepping up their game and doing their best to dress the best. Styles such as skinny jeans and high heals are the next big thing in 2009. Megan also states ” Its important to wear what makes you feel good and not just whats in style at the time.”. When asked about her personal style Amanda Acevedo exclaim ” I wear mostly skinny jeans, shorts and skirts, all all around im pretty much a extremely girly person.” Everyone has their own personal style weather its girly, goth, sporty, or punk, so if   your     dressing to impress be sure to impress your self before you think of what everyone else might be wearing or what they think because its just as important to feel good as to look good.
